Top 5 Queensland running events to add to your calendar
New to running? Or a seasoned pro looking to push yourself outside of your comfort zone? Well, here are five Queensland events to add to your calendar that will be sure to bring a challenge or two:

Bridge to Brisbane 10km – Sunday, 28 August 2018

For the last few years I have had the pleasure of running in this event with children from the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital and let me tell you, those kids are not afraid of a challenge! Running the full 10km with them, without stopping is some pretty inspiring stuff. What I love about this event is that the whole of Brisbane city really gets behind it, everyone gets involved and it's a great family event if you have kids, nephews/nieces. It's also a great way to see Brisbane. The 10km route has a mixture of up hills, flats and downhills, which is why I think this is a great start out run for someone looking to broaden their brain and leg power.

Up the Buff 16/25km – Sunday, 25 March 2018

If you crave a challenge of the 'uphill' kind then this is your event. Held in the beautiful Currumbin Valley on Queensland's Gold Coast, this event has challenging yet achievable courses along the buffer track separating the New South Wales and Queensland border. It’s a unique event not to be missed but your legs will definitely feel like jelly and you will definitely finish this event challenged!

Gold Coast Marathon 42km – 30 June to 1 July 2018

This is where we step it up a bit and get into the nitty gritty. "I really want to do a full marathon". I hear it all the time. If you are looking at running a full marathon, book your place and commit straight away without over thinking it, because there's no better time than the present. Although this event requires some fitness, what's going to get you over that finish line is actually your mental state. Thankfully, because this event is so huge, you will be encouraged left, right and centre by spectators the whole way along the course, giving you a crazy amount of energy. And what better way to see some of the best sprint runners in the world than running beside them in the GC Marathon!

Gold Coast 100km – Sunday, 10 June 2018

Okay, so this is where we get real. Forget everything you thought you knew about yourself, because during this event you're really going to find out what sort of person you are and what you’re truly capable of doing. If you are new to long distance, forget about times and how fast you are going to do it in, because there is no need to add pressure to an already challenging run. Just focus on finishing. This is a great first event for those looking at getting into long distance.

Glasshouse 100km/100 Miler – 8 to 9 September

Let’s step it up just a little. Just a smidge. The Glasshouse 100km or Miler will in fact break you. Knowing that from experience, I can put my hand up and say 'yep, this challenged me'. This run is for the thrill seeker but there's

something about trail running and running in the bush that will eliminate some of the mental battles and tough times you will endure on this run. Based on the beautiful Sunshine Coast, it is very scenic. But with the scenery comes hills... and lots of them. I believe that everyone should do a 100km or a Miler in their lifetime. Because as people we are capable of achieving some pretty remarkable things, but we don't figure that out until we face a battle. Sure, it's somewhat scary but hey... what's life without a challenge!

My choice of kit for any of these events would have to be the SQD Freeway 6" Shorts and either the Vulcan tee or singlet. Both shirt and shorts are light, airy and perform well in the heat, especially the Vulcan tee thanks to its Polygiene® anti odour technology. But don't take my word for it. Try any of these events or products out for yourself.
