What's In My Life?

What's In My Life?

Elegant tech, Australian made skin care products, books to keep me inspired, pens that look as good as they write, Swiss made timekeeping, canvas carry and other distinguished products... oh, and an Iron Man that has his own plan of attack. The full list of my essentials here.

iPhone

Committed to a phone without Pokemon Go. Including a ‘moderation’ folder that consists of the pitfalls and addictions of social media apps. The love/hate relationship with my phone exists for majority of the day but never enough to see my battery power below 20%.

SONY A7

A fine piece of glass that creates a photo that doesn't reflect my photography skills.

MAKR CANVAS WALLET

Canvas wallet with a ZKK zip that keeps shit in.

MIANSAI WATCH

A special occasion type watch. Swiss made, Ronda movement, domed acrylic crystal, with a vintage cognac brown Italian leather strap.

RETAP WATER BOTTLE

‘Rethink Water’ 0.8L of beautiful Danish-designed borosilicate glass. Lifetime break warranty on the the highly durable glass that withstands most impacts. Worth the $40 and challenge accepted.

MACBOOK PRO

Tech that holds my digital life. Notes, photos, inspiration, uni, Tin Tin episodes to name a few.

LAMY

Safari ballpoint pen — made from ABS plastic another item that is virtually impossible to break.

HARD DRIVE

Toshiba ‘Porsche’ — Call it a Commodore, as long as it keeps my files safe.

FFFC (Fitzroy Fly Fishing Club) PIN

Support your local fly fishing club.

POCKET KNIFE

Never know when you need them tweezers for a nasty splinter.

APPLE MOUSE

Comes along for the ride with the MacBook.

TOKYO MILK PERFUME

My distinguished indulgence! Amber resin, oak bark, blood orange, patchouli.

MONOCLE GUIDE

Informs, reports, recommends, gives tips, photographs, illustrates, a Holy Bible on ways to improve your life!

RHODIA NOTE PAD

Dot grid layout. Keeps things neat. A mixture of everything.

BAXTER OF CALI CLAY WAX

Since 2010 — first tried and purchased from Blind Barber, East Village NYC. The beeswax smell is forever a constant reminder of my first journey to the Big Apple. A pleasant memento.

AESOP ESSENTIAL OIL

Good for those sleepy nights in the diffuser. A careful blend of citrus aromas, enhanced with bergamot rind; the perfect antidote to stress and hurriedness.

CRUMPLER CARRY

Cable carry. With elements of OCD, this guy provides a safe place for all my wired chaos.

KEYCHAIN

"Eventually everything connects — people, ideas, objects. The quality of the connections is the key to quality per se." — Charles Eames.

JACK SPADE

Man bag. Question myself a bit with this item. Grit the teeth and carry on.

SHARPIE

Staple in the car or backpack. Covers all areas.

JOHNNY RAMLI NECKLACE

Handmade and unique, Indonesia.

BAXTER OF CALI SHAMPOO

Minty fresh.

SPARE A7 BATTERY

Just in case.

RAEN SUNGLASSES

A treat from travels in Japan. The first 2 weeks of the trip involved trying these on every time I walked past the shop. Pulled the trigger on the third.

BRUTAL TRUTH

Believer of taking care of yourself, blokey or not...

APPLE HEADPHONES

Neatly tangled — always with me.

DO/PURPOSE

Inspiration.

KUUMBA INTERNATIONAL

Japanese high quality and traditional scents, made using raw materials.

KNOG BLINDER

Name suggests its purpose. Stay safe & be ‘blinding’ on the roads.

MOLESKINE

Record them thoughts. Buddies up with the Lamy ‘Safari’ pen.

LIGHTER

Light that incense.

IRON MAN

Hot toys. The devil is in the details. Straight to the trophy room!

MIANSAI BRACELET

Men's silver hook on maritime rope. Demonstrating the nautical aesthetic for which Miansai are known.

James Polkinghorne
After 8 successful years at the Brisbane Lions, James made a ‘grassroots’ move home to Melbourne looking forward to taking it back a notch with Essendon in the VFL. Cracking into an MBA and gaining experience in various business environments has provided a pathway into life after footy, however in a rare twist of fate, Essendon AFL had a few team issues (to say the least) so James has had to pull on the Jumper for one more year. Knowing exactly what it takes to perform at an elite level, but still get a ‘life’ James is super skilled and experienced at sharing, communicating and mentoring ‘Balance’.
